China Shipping, UASC start service through Jacksonville

May 1, 2012

The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) is pleased to announce that beginning this month, two international container carriers will offer service through Jacksonville for the first time. China Shipping Container Lines of Shanghai, China and United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), headquartered in Kuwait, now offer container service via CMA-CGM’s Pacific Express 3 (PEX 3) Service through APM Terminals at JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.  This development makes JAXPORT the last port of call on the PEX 3 rotation’s westbound leg, following U.S. stops in Houston, Mobile and Miami.

“We are happy to offer our customers the added value of these two new, premier shipping options, as well as the efficiency of our position as the final U.S. port of call,” said JAXPORT CEO Paul Anderson.  “Clearly, the thinking is shifting worldwide and JAXPORT is becoming well-known for providing the cost- and time-saving advantages demanded by all businesses today.”

“With the addition of China Shipping and UASC, 11 of the world’s top 15 ocean carriers now serve the port,” added JAXPORT Executive Vice President Roy Schleicher. “Clearly, the word is out among international shippers that Jacksonville’s location, logistics and connectivity make us a superior choice.”
