First Logistics Summer Camp launched in June

June 30, 2010

By Lindsay Russi, JAXPORT intern

Thirty-five First Coast and Ponte Vedra High School students participated in the region’s first Logistics Summer Camp, titled “Move-It, Move-It – How things get from here to there.”

The week-long camp was held June 14-18 and enabled students to gain first-hand experience in the logistics industry. Students met with industry professionals, learned about supply chains and toured Cecil Field, Wal-Mart, JAXPORT, Horizon Lines, and TraPac. Throughout the week, students gathered information regarding the supply chain for cargoes such as cell phones, automobiles, televisions, toys and clothing. The students used this information to organize Power Point presentations at the end of the week detailing how these goods are transported overseas to our region.

This groundbreaking summer camp was funded through a FDOT – Garrett A. Morgan “Touchpoints for Tomorrow” grant in partnership with Duval and St. Johns County Schools, JAXPORT, UNF, and the Banner Center for Logistics and Distribution.
