JAXPORT overall tonnage up 8% through January 2009

February 24, 2009

Through the first four months of JAXPORT’s fiscal year (beginning Oct. 1, 2008), our total tonnage is up 8 percent in comparison with the same time period last fiscal year.

Containerized cargoes are up 24 percent so far this year, and bulk shipments are consistent with last year’s numbers, but breakbulk and autos are each down 5 percent. With a weak U.S. dollar continuing to drive exports, auto exports from Jacksonville are up 38 percent so far, when compared to last fiscal year.
