JAXPORT updating state-related port badge procedures
May 31, 2011
Update 9/13/2011 - JAXPORT's Business Purposes Credential process has been revised as detailed on the Access Control Center page of jaxport.com.
Original news release follows:
Florida Gov. Rick Scott recently signed into law legislation that changes state requirements for port security badges, processing and fees. (Please note there are no changes to the federal TWIC badging process or requirement. Anyone visiting JAXPORT more than five times in 90 days must obtain a TWIC and ensure that the TWIC is registered in the JAXPORT Access Control System.)
The new law only applies to the JAXPORT badge and will require a period of time for JAXPORT to review and approve any fee changes. During this review process, JAXPORT is implementing the following measures. No fees will be assessed during the policy evaluation period.
- JAXPORT ID badge renewals with a valid TWIC will be processed without the criminal background check
- New badge applicants with a TWIC will be processed under the current policy
- New applicants without a TWIC will be processed under the current policy, providing 30 days temporary access pending their receipt of the TWIC card
