JAXPORT's Foreign Trade Zone expands opportunities
May 13, 2011
JAXPORT’s Foreign Trade Zone #64 has become the first of Florida’s 20 FTZs (and only the 31st of the nation’s 272 FTZs) to receive enhanced status under a newly available U.S. Department of Commerce program. The Alternative Site Framework (ASF) makes it faster and easier for companies to secure FTZ status for their operations, allowing businesses to save money and time. The first beneficiary of the newly expanded FTZ is Hillwood’s AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center.
The new program also expands the FTZ area outside of Duval County for the first time to include Clay, Nassau, Baker and Columbia counties. This means businesses with established warehousing and distribution sites can be activated in the space they currently occupy and complete the process of application as an FTZ site within about 30 days. The expanded FTZ will help attract new companies to the region and increase the attractiveness of using JAXPORT to move cargo in and out of North Florida.
