February 24, 2012
Mayor Alvin Brown and the City of Jacksonville are hosting a number of mayors from around the country who are part of a special committee on ports and exports Mayor Brown chairs for the U.S. Conference of Mayors. This is the first time in its 80-year history that the conference has focused discussion on ports and a sign that the significance of ports and port investment has now become a topic of national importance.
Jacksonville Port Authority CEO Paul Anderson is joining a group of widely respected experts on ports presenting at this week’s event including renowned industry economist John Martin and the executive director of the American Association of Port Authorities Kurt Nagle. The two-day discussion will center on the critical and immediate needs of U.S. ports in terms of preservation and growth projects as well as spurring domestic manufacturing and exports.
The Metro Exports and Ports committee intends to end the Jacksonville sessions with a strong plan of action in support of port investment and promotion of exports to present to the full U.S. Conference of Mayors later this year.
