US DOT Secretary Ray LaHood, Mayor Brown tour JAXPORT

US Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood toured JAXPORT’s TraPac Container Terminal today at the invitation of CEO Paul Anderson. Secretary LaHood, Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown and other transportation officials received a briefing from JAXPORT’s Chief Operating Officer Chris Kauffmann and TraPac VP and General Manager Dennis Kelly on funding needs to ensure future growth. The Secretary spoke with reporters during his tour, citing the critical role the nation’s ports are playing in creating jobs and economic benefit. Secretary LaHood also praised local efforts to grow Jacksonville’s port for the good of the state and nation, telling reporters that when it comes to investing federal dollars, “JAXPORT fits the model that we are looking for.” Paul Anderson called the Secretary’s visit today an acknowledgment of the port’s increasing importance to the nation.
