To support local schools, the Jacksonville Port Authority spearheads the following programs:
Port-based Economics Curriculum
JAXPORT and local teachers have created a port-based Economics curriculum, to be used by all high school seniors studying Economics in Duval County Public Schools.
Student Mentoring Program
JAXPORT partners with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northeast Florida and Kessler Mentoring in a program where Port workers serve as mentors to students at a local middle school.
Annual Scholarship Fund
JAXPORT contributes to an annual college scholarship fund coordinated by the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA local 1408) to send high school students to college.
Student Intern Program
JAXPORT partners with the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce and Duval County Public Schools to provide internships at the Port Authority and other local businesses for students attending Information Technology Career Academies at two area high schools: Raines High School and A. Philip Randolph.
International Business Career Academy
JAXPORT has worked with the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce and Duval County Public Schools to establish a Career Academy in International Business at Terry Parker High School. Students may focus their educational track on hospitality and tourism, international finance or marketing/logistics.
Teacher Appreciation Day
Each year, JAXPORT participates in the First Coast Manufacturer's Association (FCMA) annual Teacher Appreciation Day to say "Thank You!" to area teachers.
Free Port Tours
JAXPORT gives free guided tours of the Port to students 5th grade and above (as well as to adult civic, social and business associations). To schedule a speaker or tour, call JAXPORT at (904) 357-3080.
