How big is Jacksonville's seaport?
JAXPORT's four public seaport terminals cover a combined 1,500 acres of land in Jacksonville, Florida. More than eight million tons of cargo moved through these facilities last year. (Nearly 20 additional privately-owned marine terminals also operate in Jacksonville's harbor without support or management from JAXPORT. These private facilities move an additional 10 million tons of cargo annually.) In terms of total tonnage, Jacksonville's port is about the 40th largest in the United States and the 3rd largest in Florida, behind the Port of Tampa and Port Everglades. Jacksonville, which handled 614,647 vehicles in 2007, is one of the largest automobile handling ports in the United States.

What advantages does Jacksonville have over other South Atlantic ports?
Jacksonville's biggest advantage is its outstanding railroad and highway connections, which can move cargo in any direction. Jacksonville is located at the intersection of three interstate highways (I-10, I-75 and I-95) and three major railroads, including Jacksonville-based CSX Transportation (CSXT), Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) and Norfolk Southern. Through these intermodal connections, the port's cargo can be moved quickly to and from major U.S. markets via truck or train. Jacksonville also has four airports to complement its three public cargo marine terminals and passenger cruise facility.
