Cruise Forward and join the conversation
The world’s cruise lines, including JAXPORT’s longtime business partner Carnival, have joined together to form Cruise Forward — a platform for sharing success stories about the industry. The goal is to educate communities, policymakers, employees and stakeholders about the industry’s positive impact around the world and here in Jacksonville, home port of the Carnival Fascination.
In 2012, the North American cruise industry contributed more than $42 billion to the U.S. economy according to an study commissioned by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Florida ports accounted for 60 percent of all U.S. cruise embarkations during the same period.
Another study recently found that Jacksonville’s cruise business generated 460 new jobs and more than $67 million in annual economic impact for Northeast Florida.

2012 a record year for Jacksonville cruises
More than 195,000 passengers sailed on cruises departing from JAXPORT in 2012, a new passenger record. Studies show that passengers enjoy cruising from JAXPORT. Voyages average 120 percent occupancy, and 95 percent of passengers recently surveyed said they would choose Jacksonville for their next cruise departure. (A cruise ship is considered 100 percent occupied when two passengers are booked per cabin.)
In addition, JAXPORT’s cruise embarkation team has built a tradition of exceeding customer expectations. In recent years, Carnival awarded the terminal’s embarkation team highest honors in its Quality Assurance Inspection Program, and the same team continues to earn top honors in the company’s annual guest comment card survey.
