How JAXPORT Is Ready for Your Next Project

By Jeff Price, JAXPORT Marketing Director

In breakbulk and heavy project cargo, size and timing aren’t negotiable. Your team needs a partner that understands the science of lifting, the discipline of on-dock storage, and the practicality of multimodal access. At JAXPORT, you’ll find the people who move big things for a living.

X MARKS THE SPOT FOR BREAKBULK

JAXPORT is a breakbulk gateway, handling everything from forest products to large industrial equipment. For years, companies have sent their heavy machinery, transformers, generators and over-dimensional project cargo through JAXPORT and on to their destination.

Global reach

JAXPORT’s network spans the globe. The port hosts direct calls and dedicated services that connect to Asia, Europe, South America, the Caribbean and other regions, with direct access to 140 ports in 70 countries.

JAXPORT also welcomes charter vessels, providing shippers another route when standard services don’t fit.

Heavy lift cargo at JAXPORT

Heavy-lift expertise

The heavy-lift capabilities at JAXPORT include a berth with load capacity up to 2,000 pounds per square foot. That underpins the ability to handle transformers, generators and other oversized items – potentially weighing in the range of 30,000–70,000 pounds per piece.

Port tenants Enstructure and SSA Marine bring a depth of experience in determining weights, selecting lifting gear and safely handling specialized loads.

Diversified commodity mix

Forest products have long been a cornerstone of JAXPORT’s breakbulk offering.

Large paper rolls (shipped from Finland and Sweden) and pulp (from Brazil and Finland) illustrate the scale and consistency shippers find at the port.

Add in metals as well as food-grade breakbulk items like coffee and frozen poultry, and you see a diversified mix tuned to balance shipments, and a well-rounded team who can move virtually any product.

On-dock warehousing

One of breakbulk’s costs is storage and handling between vessel and final mile. JAXPORT counters that with substantial on-dock warehousing and access to ample regional industrial space.

More than 1 million square feet of on-dock warehouse capacity keeps cargo close to the action, while the broader regional footprint – about 175 million square feet of industrial space in Northeast Florida – provides nearby options for staging, processing or longer-term storage.

The majority of breakbulk cargo moving through the port is temporarily stored in on-dock facilities before final delivery by truck or rail.

That on-dock advantage translates into faster turnarounds and reduced intermodal handling time.

The impact for breakbulk and project cargo shippers

Moving high-value, oversized freight requires zero margin for error; JAXPORT minimizes risk and drives efficiency across every phase of your supply chain:

  • Predictable access to global markets: A network that connects to 140 ports in 70 countries, with direct services and charter options.
  • Heavy-lift confidence: A berth capable of supporting extremely heavy pieces, combined with experienced teams who know how to plan, gear, and secure large loads.
  • On-dock efficiency: Large, ready-to-use warehousing on the water, reducing handling time and risk while keeping cargo close to the vessel.
  • End-to-end logistics acceleration: Strong intermodal links and a regional footprint that enable faster movement from port to site, with multiple rail and truck options.

Meet the JAXPORT team at Breakbulk Americas 2026

The Breakbulk Americas conference and expo is the perfect forum to see this operating model in context: a place where trade dynamics and risk management intersect with multimodal logistics, planning and workforce development.

The event agenda includes discussions on LNG development, critical minerals, multimodal solutions and the future of U.S. manufacturing, all areas where JAXPORT’s breakbulk capabilities offer tangible value.

Attending Breakbulk Americas in Houston, Texas? Stop by the JAXPORT exhibit at B07 during the event Sept. 22–23, 2026 and let’s plan your next shipment.
