JAXPORT has been awarded a $40 million grant through the U.S. Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program to modernize Berth 32 at Blount Island. The project will rebuild approximately 900 feet of berth, increase its load-bearing capacity and upgrade infrastructure supporting cargo operations.

The award is part of $498 million announced for 35 port projects across 19 states.

“The strength of our nation’s economy is directly tied to the state of our ports,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy.

“We thank Secretary Duffy, MARAD Administrator Carmel and members of our North Florida Congressional Delegation for this investment in America’s supply chain and the jobs that depend on trade through Florida’s largest container port,” said JAXPORT CEO Eric Green. “Modernizing Berth 32 at Blount Island builds on recent public and private investments to expand our port’s capabilities, strengthen cargo connections serving the Southeast U.S. and Puerto Rico, and enhance our role as a U.S. Strategic Seaport.”
