The Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) Jacksonville Chapter recently recognized JAXPORT’s State of the Port address with an Award of Distinction in the Virtual Special Event category during its 2021 awards program, “In Pursuit of PR Excellence.” The annual competition recognizes outstanding public relations programs throughout Northeast Florida.

The State of the Port address is an annual event traditionally held in person through a partnership between the Jacksonville Port Authority and the Propeller Club – Port of Jacksonville.

“With in-person events on hold due to the pandemic, holding this year’s event virtually allowed us to share our vision for the future with a global audience,” said JAXPORT Director and General Manager of Business Development Robert Peek. “About 700 transportation and logistics professionals attended the event, a testament to the impact JAXPORT’s growth has on our local community and businesses throughout the world.”

During the presentation, JAXPORT Board Chairman Jamie Shelton and CEO Eric Green recognized the port workers who kept cargo moving seamlessly throughout the pandemic and unveiled a new Strategic Master Plan that serves as JAXPORT’s roadmap to success over the next five years.

“Our harbor deepening has put us in the top tier, and our infrastructure is in place,” CEO Green said during the event. “We have strong relationships with our tenants and partners, and our location and reputation speak for themselves. Those are key advantages as we move forward.”

JAXUSA Partnership President Aundra Wallace joined Peek to discuss how port growth supports economic development throughout Northeast Florida.

Additional participants included Florida Senator Rick Scott, representatives from U.S. Customs and Border Protection – Area Port of Jacksonville and U.S. Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, and Propeller Club President Linda Carrion.

The 2021 State of the Port address received high marks from FPRA judges on content and production. “I thought it was very creative how you moved this event online and kept it relevant,” noted one judge. Another added, “In a virtual setting, it is increasingly difficult to hold the audience’s attention. A well-produced video certainly helps.”

The virtual event was produced by the port’s in-house communications and marketing teams, with production support from Jacksonville-based Gemstone Media.
