The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT), Florida’s No. 1 container port by volume, today announced the addition of two experienced containerized cargo professionals to the port’s commercial team.

Joyssy Arias joins JAXPORT as Director of Ocean Carrier Development. In this role, Arias is responsible for developing JAXPORT’s ocean carrier service in the container trade, with a primary focus on building and maintaining the port’s relationships with global ocean carriers.

Arias has nearly two decades of experience with some of the world’s leading ocean carriers, most recently serving as Senior Manager of Trans-Pacific Trade for Hapag-Lloyd. During her career, she has held logistics management roles based in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and South America, serving nearly all major international trade lanes and developing new routings and products. Arias is also experienced in perishable cargo and vessel capacity management through former roles at A.P. Moller – Maersk and global freight forwarder ECU Worldwide. She is fluent in English and Spanish and proficient in Portuguese.

Sheila Cox joins JAXPORT as Director of National Container Accounts. In this role, she works to develop new and existing container cargo business with shippers and beneficial cargo owners throughout the United States.

Cox has more than 30 years of experience in nearly every facet of the Southeast US supply chain. She most recently served as Founder and Managing Director of Global Match, a Charleston, South Carolina-based third-party logistics provider. Prior to that, Cox held business development positions at the South Carolina Ports Authority, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), North Carolina State Ports Authority, and COSCO Shipping. She began her career serving as a freight forwarder, managing end-to-end ocean and air freight delivery.

“Joyssy and Sheila’s industry experience and commitment to outstanding customer service make them a great fit for our cargo sales team,” said JAXPORT CEO Eric Green. “As major growth initiatives, anchored by harbor deepening, are set to come online in 2022—their expertise at all levels of the supply chain will benefit container customers looking to take advantage of the efficiencies, capabilities, and ease of business JAXPORT offers.”

Arias and Cox join JAXPORT as the federal project to deepen Jacksonville’s shipping channel to 47 feet is set to be completed through the port’s Blount Island Marine Terminal in summer 2022. The project includes construction of a vessel turning basin to allow larger ships to turn at Blount Island berths. More than $100 million in berth enhancements to enable the terminal to simultaneously accommodate two post-Panamax ships will be completed in coordination with the deepening project.

Located in the Southeastern United States at the crossroads of the nation’s rail and highway network, JAXPORT is the global gateway to Florida, the nation’s third-largest state. More than 98 million consumers live within a day’s drive of JAXPORT, with major interstates located as close as a mile from port terminals.
