Students from Mayport Elementary Coastal Sciences Academy gathered recently at Mandarin Park to celebrate the release of fish they raised themselves into the St. Johns River. The 4th and 5th graders raised the fish from newly hatched fingerlings to juveniles in a hands-on outdoor lab sponsored by JAXPORT as part of the “Small Fry to Go” program. The students cared for the rainbow trout in the “Labitat” and learned to maintain a proper aquatic environment. The students also learned the importance of preserving natural habitats and ecosystems and being good environmental stewards.

As an involved corporate citizen, JAXPORT sponsors or participates in numerous community outreach programs around Northeast Florida focused on education.
