JAXPORT is known for its ability to handle a diverse array of cargo – and 2015 has been a shining example of that!

From fast boats and fast cars, helicopters and ambulances, and the ever-increasing size of container cargo ships, JAXPORT welcomed a variety of cargo and new services, and continued to enhance port infrastructure to grow Northeast Florida’s global competitiveness in trade and transportation.

Here a just a few of the highlights from 2015:


Racing Boats.jpgFebruary 2015 – World champion racing boats get world class treatment at JAXPORT as Portus stevedores move seven H1 Unlimited Hydroplane racing boats through Blount Island.


Elation.jpgMarch 2015 – JAX cruise offerings go from fascinating to elated! Carnival announces that starting April 2016, the Elation will replace the Fascination and offer year-round four- and five-day cruises out of JAXPORT’s cruise terminal.


April 2015 – We keep get bigger, better! The 8,800 TEU (container unit) MOL Northern Juvenile sets a record as the largest container cargo ship to ever call on Jacksonville.


April 2015 – The first new VWs, Audis and Bentleys arrive at Blount Island as JAXPORT begins serving as Volkswagen’s Southeastern U.S. distribution hub.


Ambulances.jpgJune 2015 – Sending made-in-Florida goods around the world! NYK Line North America begins exporting hundreds of new ambulances through JAXPORT.


Mile Point.jpgJuly 2015 – Making it easier for larger cargo ships to call on JAXPORT: The Mile Point project to remove a navigational restriction in the St. Johns River official gets underway.


Maersk.jpgJuly 2015 – Big, big news for JAXPORT as the world’s No. 1 container shipping company, Maersk Line, begins direct service from Blount Island to China and South Korea.


Rail Lines.jpgAugust 2015 – Workers place the first rail lines for JAXPORT’s new Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) at Dames Point, another step towards moving cargo containers directly from/to ships at North Jax seaport terminals.


getting fruity_1.jpgSeptember 2015 – Delicious news! JAXPORT receives approval to import apples, grapes, blueberries, pears and citrus from Peru, Uruguay and Argentina meaning fresher produce at your grocer.


September 2015 – Vroom, vroom! Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) announces its selection of JAXPORT as its port of entry for new Porsche vehicles bound for southeastern dealerships.


Helicopter.jpgNovember 2015 – Another good workout for JAXPORT’s heavy lift and project cargo berth as three multi-million dollar helicopters and 10 ambulances moved through Blount Island Marine Terminal.
